Azul Cup

About

The Azul Cup is a international team tournament hosted on BGA.Each national team comprises of at least 3 players.In the Azul Cup teams compete against other nations to determine the World Champions.

Format

Games are played in a 1v1, colour side, turn-based format.There are two rounds in the Azul Cup, a first round Regional Tournament, followed by a Finals Tournament. The format for both are the same.For each round, teams are required to put forward 3 competing players.Round one: Regionals
Teams are organised into four regions. Each region will have a separate tournament created for each competing player.
Tournaments are round robin and points are scored for the team based upon each player's individual finishing position within the tournament.The highest scoring nation from each region advances to the finals. Ties are broken by the team that had the most wins between the two tied teams, and then total points scored in the games.Round two: Finals
The finals comprise of 4 national sides and are played in the same format as the regionals.

To sign up:

  • If you are representing a new nation, then assemble a team of at least 3 players and register interest on the BGA forum by using the signup button.

  • If you are a member of a nation that already competes, contact the relevant team captain listed below via BGA.

  • If you are unable to find or form a team then you may be able to join a Rest of the World team by registering your interest on the BGA forum by using the signup button.

Rules

The rules for Azul Cup are simple and we ask all participants to abide by them for the enjoyment and fulfilment of all those taking part.Games are to be played by individuals:
All games must be played solely by the individuals that are participating in them without collaboration from other team members. This includes seeking advice or feedback for moves.
Player rotation:
After regionals are completed, teams that are fortunate enough to have many members, are welcome to rotate their team. This enables all team members to have an opportunity to compete. The number of players competing still need to meet the tournament requirement of 3.
Players that have timed out:
Players will be provided with sufficient time in which to complete a game. If however a player is out of time then it is allowed for the player to be timed out, however, it is recommended that BGA guidelines are followed.
